With the upcoming MLB game 2019, there’s much brouhaha amongst the fans debating, predicting, buying Toronto Blue Jays tickets and becoming the gratuitous strategist of the team as to who should and who shouldn’t make it to the team to give it a winning streak. So, here’s how the iconic baseball team of Canada came into being.
A Peek into the History & Achievements of Toronto Blue Jays
The foundation of Toronto Blue Jays was chiefly because the U.S. court overruled the decision of moving the Californian baseball franchise - San Francisco Giants to Toronto in 1976. The Giant owners decided to sell the franchise to a Toronto consortium of Labatt Breweries of Canada, Ltd., Vulcan Assets Ltd., and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). It could have marked the arrival of Major League Baseball in Toronto in 1976, however it was delayed until 1977 when Major League Baseball agreed to an expansion franchise to the city.
Since the nascence, Toronto Blue Jays experienced its fair share of highs and lows. From struggles of being an expansion team entering the MLB to winning its first-ever season in 1983 under the leadership of the Hall of Fame star - Bobby Cox. Blue Jays won the first title - AL East division title for the franchise in 1985. 1992 and 1993 brought significant luck to the franchise. Under the leadership of Cito Gaston, the team bagged first two World Series title back to back.
Toronto Blue Jays also hold the record of the highest attendance of over 1 million for the MLB’s first-year expansion team and also went on to become the first MLB team to attract over 4 million fans in 1991. Moreover, the attendance of 4,057,947 in Blue Jays' 1993 game stood as an AL record for 12 long years. In 2016, the Blue Jays ranked fourth for acquiring most runs in MLB history with 221 home runs.
