The founders Ashley Capps of AC Entertainment and Kerry Black (graphic design), Rick Farman (festival operations), Richard Goodstone (marketing), and Jonathan Mayers (programming) of Superfly Productions came up with the name "Bonnaroo", which in Creole slang means having a really good time but was also to honor New Orleans music that they had enjoyed in their college days and then found the perfect site in Manchester, Tennessee.

Camping is part of the Bonnaroo Festival experience. Plazas can be found throughout the campgrounds for the festival-goers to gather, explore art & activities. Some activities are a spa day, an art project, or a new hairdo, sound baths, herbs and flower workshops, vinyl club and even tarot readings.

Late shows are also given and After FEQ’s.
The Festival d'été de Québec sells out over 132,000 and has a total attendance of about 1.5 million people a year in year out and gives hundreds of performances spread out over a dozen indoor and outdoor venues.
